Dennis Rainey: What television shows were off limits when you were growing up?

Guest: TV show my parents did not allow me to watch: Saturday Night Live, Three's Company. It may easier to mention the ones we did watch. I remember watching the Donnie and Marie Show. We watched Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Hee Haw and The Lawerence Welk show. I think that was pretty much the gamut of our television viewing.

Dennis Rainey: You may have a list of programs you were and were not allowed to watch while growing up. How do we as parents decide what shows are appropriate for our families?

In our house, we have Psalm 101:3 printed out and taped to the top of our television as a reminder while we watch. It says, "I will set no worthless thing before my eyes. I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not fasten its grip on me."

One final thought. A parent needs to serve as the door for any media that comes into the home. Take a moment and think about the programs that you're allowing to the threshold. We need to be aware of what our children are watching, and close the door to any worthless thing.

I'm Dennis Rainey, and that's Real FamilyLife.
